Vence is the perfect location at any time of the year. It lies just 20 minutes’ drive northwest of Nice airport, out of the madding crowd on the coast.  Nevertheless it is a mere 15 minutes’ drive to the nearest beach or 30 minutes’ drive to the centre of Nice or Antibes.  A 40 minute drive will bring you to the famous town of Cannes.

Vence is located under the Baou de Blanc and the Baou de Noir, two impressive rock outcrops that dominate the skyline.  There are walking trails on both baoux that provide stunning views of the coast, you can see from Nice to the Cap d’Antibes.

Just around the corner
In Vence you can take part in local life. There are tourists in summer but the town is still very active and vibrant when the season is over. The medieval old town takes you back in time, and we definitely recommend that you do a guided walk that you can book at the office du tourisme (located at Place du Grand Jardin).

Every day there is a small vegetable market in the town square which is joined by other vendors on Tuesday’s and Friday’s.
The town puts on small events and festivals in spring and summertime, providing music, theatre and artisan markets. The biggest festival is in July, the festival “Nuit du Sud” when national and international artists perform.

Culture abounds in Vence
. The Chapelle du Rosaire, also called Chapelle Matisse, is a 15 minute walk from the center. Designed by the famous artist, Henri Matisse, the chapel was built and decorated between 1949 and 1951 and was considered by the artist to be his masterpiece. A beautiful mosaic by another famous artist, Marc Chagall, is to be found in the Vence cathedral.
